Theory and Hazard Perception Test

The Theory Test consists of 50 questions.  You will have 57 minutes to answer the multiple choice questions. 

The pass mark is 43 out of 50

Once you have finished your theory test you can have a break of up to 3 minutes then the Hazard perception test will begin.

You will be shown a short video clip of how it works then you’ll start the test.  This consists of video clips showing everyday road scenes.  Each scene contains a developing hazard and one will feature two.  A developing hazard is something that may result in you having to take some action such as having to change speed or direction.  The earlier you notice a developing hazard and make a response (by clicking the mouse button) the higher your score will be.  Don’t be tempted to click continuously or in a pattern as you will score zero for that clip.

Your theory test pass certificate

 

If you pass your theory test, you'll get a pass certificate.  Keep it safe you'll need this to book and take your practical test. 

Your theory test pass certificate runs out after two years of passing your test. If you have not passed your practical test by then, you'll need to take and pass the theory test again.
